A game designed by <b>Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Gu\u00e9rard<\/b>, illustrated by <b>Anthony Wolff<\/b>, and published by <b>La Boite de Jeu<\/b> and <b>Origames<\/b>. A 1 to 5 player game that plays around 45 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><i>In my first article (<a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/article\/31781957#31781957\">here<\/a>) i introduced the gameplay basics of \u201c<b>It\u2019s a Wonderful World<\/b>\u201d. Today I will write about the \u201c<b>Heritage Campaigns<\/b>\u201d, what they bring to the game and how we developed it.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In a game with pure and streamlined mechanisms like \u201c<b>It\u2019s a Wonderful World<\/b>\u201d, it may be surprising to talk about \u201cCampaigns\u201d. We experimented with lots of variants. Some were working but were repetitive. Others were too harsh for beginners, too complex, etc\u2026<br \/>\nI then realized that the game was an amazing creation sandbox. It had to bring something substantial to the game. I really wanted it to be more than simple expansions.<br \/>\nI am personally a big fan of campaign or Legacy games (but only when it\u2019s well designed, as <i>Pandemy Legacy<\/i>) but I rarely have the time to finish them.<br \/>\nThus, starting from this premise we set ourselves some criteria:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <b>5 to 6 games maximum so that everybody can finish the campaign<\/b> in a reasonable time (30 to 45 minutes per game, you can finish the Campaign in 2 to 3 game nights).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Once finished, <b>the Campaign must leave a trace in the base game<\/b>. That\u2019s Legacy as the initial meaning of this word \u201cto leave a trace, a heritage\u201d in your game. But nowadays this word is associated to games in which you destroy components (which is great in <i>Pandemic Legacy<\/i> for instance), and that doesn\u2019t fit perfectly well with our project. The word could disappoint those who are seeking this definition of Legacy in a board game, and could frighten those who dislike it.<\/p>\n<p>So far I\u2019m using the terms Semi-legacy, Heritage, progressive Campaign\u2026 but the best thing to do is to explain how it works.<\/p>\n<h1><b>3\/ A \u00ab Wonderful \u00bb adventure<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>Each Campaign is divided into <b>6 or 7 scenarios<\/b>. You start with the first one and follow the instructions. Each scenario tells a specific story, a part of the game\u2019s universe, and there is always a story bifurcation at some time so you won\u2019t play all the scenarios during the same campaign. You could then replay the same campaign to try the other \u201cpath\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Each scenario tells a story (following the story of the previous scenario, or linked to the Campaign\u2019s theme). The first scenario is quite simple and introduce this mode. I concealed the scenario&#8217;s result to avoid any spoil.<\/i><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This scenario also adds a mini-rule, an evolution for the game to come and a new project card to build cooperatively.<\/p>\n<p>The game then plays a usual. At the end, following the collective choices made during the game (here, building PAX-10 or not) and following the Winner \/ Losers and the individual choices, everybody wins some advantages (always positive bonuses).<br \/>\nThe Empires\u2019 decisions impact the next games in various ways. You will all start the second scenario differently; and this scenario will also bring its proper story, rules and choices.<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t reveal more details as there is a real pleasure to discover the Campaign progressively.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the Campaign, when the last scenario is over, <b>players will obtain a sealed Heritage Booster as a reward<\/b>. It contains <b>unique cards that will add to your base game and enhance it<\/b>. That\u2019s like a mini-expansion. You can add it, remove it, and also rewind your Campaign and play it again.<\/p>\n<h1>4\/ 2 \u00ab Wonderful \u00bb Campaigns<\/h1>\n<p>During the Kickstarter there will be a pledge including <b>2 Campaigns in addition to the base game<\/b>.*<br \/>\nThe first Campaign called \u00ab <b>War and Peace<\/b> \u00bb, that will be sent as a prototype to all our Ambassadors (so that they can play and review it for you), is a first approach to the Campaign mode. It introduces the mechanisms and is quite simple to play in order to progressively discover this mode.<\/p>\n<p>The second Campaign called \u00ab<b>Leisure and Decline<\/b>\u00bb is more ambitious. We advise to play this Campaign after the first one. It brings a lot of new things and will then enhance your base game with not less than 45 cards. It also introduces a new Resource, \u201c<b>Culture<\/b>\u201d, which works differently.<br \/>\n<i>The individual and collective decisions you\u2019ll made during this campaign will have an impact on the kind of cards you\u2019ll get in your Heritage Booster.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>These two Campaigns will also be available in retail stores (No Ks exclusive) if the game is successful.<br \/>\nIt would have been a pity not to offer this mode to those who missed the KS.<br \/>\nThe backers will have many <b>Stretch Goals<\/b>, but also a <b>significant discount<\/b> on the retail price.
